A simple, physical hallway cabinet system that eliminates phone distractions, protects instructional time, and helps students build real-world habits.
An LED light on each slot shows class status live: Red means the student is in class, and Green means they are in a free period.
Teachers and administrators can instantly check compliance from down the hall. If a slot is red and empty, the phone is missing.
Set custom policies by grade. Keep phones docked all day for underclassmen, or allow free-period access for upperclassmen.
Slots use coordinate numbers (like A14 or A15) instead of student names, ensuring complete identity privacy for anyone walking down the hall.
Syncs directly with your school management system to track student class schedules and free periods automatically in real time.
Staff scan the cabinet's QR code and tap an empty slot to log an issue. Automated end-of-day emails keep students, parents, and deans informed without classroom friction.
| Feature | Pigeon Smart Cubby | Traditional Pouches (e.g. Yondr) |
|---|---|---|
| Teacher Workload | Zero classroom disruption. Monitoring happens quickly in hallway corridors. | High friction. Teachers must spot violations, stop teaching, and handle administrative paperwork. |
| Tamper Resistance | Easy to check, hard to fake. Visual lights ensure immediate compliance visibility. | Bypassed easily using cheap magnets or physical force. |
| Long-Term Value | Durable physical unit with flexible wall-mount or mobile rolling configurations. | Ongoing replacement costs due to lost, damaged, or stolen pouches over time. |
| Habit Building | Teaches students the real-world skill of putting phones away in a designated spot to focus. | Relies on artificial locking devices that students will never encounter outside of school. |
It can be built either way. Smart Cubby cabinets can be mounted stationary on hallway walls or configured on heavy-duty wheels to roll into a storage closet when needed. It is modular too so cabinets come in a variety of cubby counts.
Very little. Assigned staff take less than a minute to check cubbies two or three times a day. Because compliance is visible at a glance, any staff member walking past can also check status easily.
The system connects with your school management system (via Blackbaud SKY API) to automatically update individual cubby LED lights based on the student's live schedule.
